3 Day Quote Challenge: Day 1

DAVID BOWIE
Famous Quotes…

Admittedly David Bowie was an artist before my time/ generation. But I wish he wasn’t. I wish he was on top during my time as a teen. By the time I was old enough to know about his existence and music, he was already “slowing down” in the entertainment scene. But I still remembered Jareth the Goblin King from the Labyrinth and some other of his rare appearances on TV. I always found him to be riveting, magnetic and his whole persona astounding.

His death felt like someone shot a bullet in the artsy part of me. A part of me that I put aside because I was so caught up with work and responsibilities. Suddenly I felt a hole and it felt like a wake up call to show how important it is to just be you! So here are some of his best quotes that I hold close and feel should be shared by every individual to celebrate the free spirit that is David Bowie…

And one from one of my favorite songs. During my time it was The Wallflowers that sang Heroes. Imagine how shocked I was when I found out he was the original singer, only after he passed away. Which only makes the cut feels deeper.

Dem Orchids

Guess what I picked up last weekend. Darn it! What was I suppose to do??!! It had stripes!!!

They’re dangerous, these orchids…

My other orchids are still blooming as well (refer to prev post The Orchids). Not bad at all.

The Orchids…

I’ve decided, apart from roses, I’ve come to acquire a liking for these orchids. In general, I don’t really like flowers. They wilt and die and leave a mess. Except for roses, for their undeniably exquisite beauty and fragrance. I mean, you’d have to be blind to not like roses- it’s a perfect flower!

But I’ve discovered that orchids, don’t wilt and die easily. The flowers when they bloom lasts for quite sometime (I haven’t measured exactly how long because my orchids are sill blooming). Not only that, they come in so many varieties that makes you feel like you’ve just got to collect them all! *dangerous…*

But basically there are 2 types of orchids: terrestrial and epiphytes, meaning one growing on land, the other on trees. At the moment, I have only 3. Check it out!

The purples...

The Yellow orchids

And my favorite, which I call the North Star 🙂

It looks like a bright star!

But who could resist the Little Rose Bush… so I got that one as well.

The Kuala Lumpur Ben 10 Conference

That’s what it felt like. A Ben 10 conference at Kuala Lumpur Convention Center. If you have a son aged anywhere within the range from 4 to 15, then there is

1) a very high probability that you will be at this “conference”.

2) your son is wearing a white shirt with a single black stripe down the middle.

3) he has an omnitrix. (If you do not know what is an omnitrix than you don’t have a son within the aforementioned age range. In which case I’d recommend you to either google it or watch Cartoon Network)

Actually, it’s not really a conference at all. It’s a theaterical acrobatic performance filled with gigantic aliens. Needless to say, the crowd (which were mostly made up of little Ben Tennysons) went wild!! Everytime Ben slammed his palm on his omni, and an alien comes out from an ominous cloud of smoke and start flying around kicking the baddies tushies, it was greeted with loud cheers and applause (understatement-a few actually were jumping up and down on their seats) To see them getting excited for their favorite super hero come alive…it really made it all worthwhile.

Some of the scenes:

Ben n his gang

Big gigantic alien creatures!

What would be great though if they had arranged a photo session with the characters after each show. Unfortunately, this was sadly, amiss. That would’ve been the cherry on top of the ice cream.

Manics & Pedics

I was feeling slightly frustrated on account of work. Just the occasional downturn of mood and with no avenues to vent it out I decided to treat my hands and feet to some pampering.

So I headed off to Bangsar, to my favorite girly maintenance place (Sheela’s Beauty House) and opted for their manicure and pedicure treatment. In truth, this was my first time. I go to this particular shop every month but I’ve never done my nails at all. I’m totally a manicure/ pedicure virgin for no other reason than that I usually prefer to do my own nails. But I thought, why not? Get myself a French manicure while I’m at it since you can’t do a French by yourself. Well, you can but it’s a bit more complicated and you need much more experienced hands.

It was lovely! I chose a light color for my hands to go with the French and a darker shade for my toes. Then they buffed and they puffed and even gave me a hands and feet massage as well! It was so relaxing. Nothing like personal pampering to boost your mood.

So check it out!!!

A French manicure. And no unfortunately the purse is not mine.

Me toes!

Does this count as retail therapy as well???

P/S: This is also my first blog from my iPhone! Ain’t that great? I’m gonna try to blog more frequently after this.

Treasure Hunt 101

 TH 014

Due to my last minute colleague request, I found myself thrust into the realm of treasure hunting (you know who you are, thanks for forcing me to go). And found it to be most addictive. For those who never been on one, there are 2 things that you must know when going for one of this mind boggling quest: Tulips and Anagrams.

I’m not sure how the whole “Tulip” thing is derived. Who’s the joker who came up with that name for it has nothing, absolutely NOTHING to do with the flower. Apparently “Tulips” are just another term for maps. Instead of using maps, these are more like symbols with landmarks that points out the way and the distance to your next land mark.

Our team consists of only 3 people. The driver, the navigator and the headache at the back. A typical conversation during a treasure hunt:

Driver: Where to now ol’ chap? We are moving further and further away from civilization, see no Smart Tag booth!! *Gasp*

Navigator: Heavens no! I do hope they have tea. I really need my evening tea sessions! …A little bit more in front, turn right.. Ah now TRIP! TRIP! TRIIIPPP!!!!

Headache: I say, you are right about that. We must be in some…. Oh look! That could be IT!!! On that shop over THERE!!!… Or there… or could be that one….. (and so on and so forth)

Obviously it’s not as easy as it looks, thanks to the questions being in riddles and ANAGRAMS!!

Anagrams, are impossible. Somehow you’re suppose to find some indication in the question that “supposedly” are clues for anagrams. Random words that you’re suppose to scramble while forever hoping that the answer will pop in front of your by then tear filled, red, squinted eyes. Who the heck are the nutcases who created these things anyway??? The task is short of a feat unless you’re a seasoned Terrorist (refer to the Reigning Treasure Hunting Champion of MISC).

Anyway, it was loads of fun. And after all is said and done, our team the “Illuminati” (yeah right! The not so illuminated more like it) ended up being in the top 20, 19th ranking to be exact. We were damn well pleased with ourselves, since for the most of us it was our first time. Good show everyone!
